Scottish artist, Johnny Mulholland is based in Glasgow and specialises in portrait commissions as well as offering one-to-one portfolio tutorage.
Johnny graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2004 in drawing and painting. He paints using acrylic on deep edged canvas. This gives his work a uniform of colour and projects the images from the wall to the viewer.
To date, his work has been widely exhibited in galleries around the U.K. and Europe such as the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Glasgow Institute, Glasgow Print Studio, Christos Gallery, Merchant Gate Gallery, The Biscuit Factory in Newcastle and the Richard Kay Gallery in Carcasonne, south west France.
"Imagery is a key element within my work. I am obsessed with the use of light and the feelings it can provoke. I use light to help me form the figure from the darkness, as if a memory or a moment that lives inside us is reawoken."
" Composition is essential to my practise, along with bold colour combinations which suggest and support the narrative message throughout the works."
"This narrative places the viewer within the painting, acting out a role or moment in time to which we can relate."
"These works derive their infulence from artists as diverse as Edward Hopper, David Salle, Gary Hume and Giorgio De Chirico."
